Diablo 4 has stirred a range of emotions in players. While some vent their frustrations on unexpected one-shots by Uber Lilith, I've had an entirely different experience. In this article, I'll explore my journey to mastering Uber Lilith with my beloved HotA Barbarian and shed light on how to tank supposed one-shot attacks.
The Challenge:
When I began facing Uber Lilith, her waves' reaction time was an absolute nightmare. The repeated failures in dodging made it look like an insurmountable challenge. Moreover, managing add intermissions felt like an impossible task, with my inability to multitask proving to be a significant obstacle.
The Revelation:
As I progressed, I observed that if my shouts were active, the waves wouldn't kill me instantly. This revelation hinted at the possibility that these waves could be managed with the right strategy.
The Strategy: Building a Defensive Barbarian:
By the time I reached level 100, I had devised a plan. Sacrificing some damage, I embraced:
- A 20% damage reduction in the heart.
- Auto-attacking for an additional 20% DR aspect.
- An armor elixir to approach the armor cap.
With these adjustments, I could take on two waves, provided I had a potion on standby.
Further Refinements:
The introduction of Edgemaster's aspect with Iron Skin further enhanced my defense. The result? I could tank numerous skulls during cooldowns. This made the second phase of the fight with Lilith less daunting, enabling me to maintain safe positions and handle the spawning skulls.
Overcoming One-Shots:
The beauty of this Barbarian build is the opportunity to experience the game from a different perspective. Instead of the expected one-shots, I could tank major blows, changing the entire dynamics of the fight against Lilith.
Additionally, the versatility of this build is commendable. Not only did it allow me to counter Uber Lilith but also excel in NM100s and take down the Butcher without resorting to niche strategies.
Other Characters & Strategies:
For those keen on exploring alternatives, low-life druid bulwark and rogue builds also exhibit the potential to tank substantial damage. As for sorcerers and necromancers, the path is still a tad uncertain, though with strategic build adjustments, there's hope.
Understanding Defenses in Diablo 4:
The defensive strength in Diablo 4 cannot be underestimated. With combinations of damage reductions from items like chests and pants, players can significantly boost their effective HP. By leveraging these defensive multipliers, even potentially fatal attacks can be managed.
Is the Uber Lilith fight perfectly designed? Opinions vary. Some feel that the one-shot mechanics overshadow the game's essence, pushing players into specific builds. On the other hand, I perceive it as an opportunity to innovate and discover unique strategies.
